Depending on sign-ups we may combine Randy and Neil's group.
Be thinking what time you will be leaving Friday morning and your meeting place. If we all are want to leave at the same time we can still meet at our usual place (Ralphs at Colima & Whittier Blvd). We can then re-group at breakfast and then at the AVI Casino.
My group will leave at 5am and we will meet at Ralphs.
Right now with Murrie we have 9 vehicles.
Thanks, Fred

OK some are having problems with the sign up sheet, I understand it doesn't work as well as I would like so here is an easy one.
Group 1 Fred Taylor Mike Lafluer Fernando Gonzalez Cody Dunn - Friday night Matt Dillon - Friday night Jim Frei
Group 2 Neil Webster Murrie Alcorn
Group 3 Randy Gomez Matt Johnston
Now if you want to add you name you can chose the quote option or copy and pate and add your name, or just send me an e-mail saying your coming.
So far the count is 10 vehicles.
Thanks, Fred

I know the Mohave road is not that strenuous as far as far as capabilities are concerned.... But are you seriously going to allow a "limited 4x4" to go? I pray he has the Holy Spirit with him the whole way!!!!

I just checked the weather and it is looking like a cold weekend with some precipitation likely on Saturday. Highs look to be 45-50ish and lows may get to 28 or so. Bring your good sleeping bags and long undies!
Both my passengers and I have obligations into the evening Friday night, so we will head out early Saturday morning and per my discussion with Randy plan to meet at the intersection of Black Canyon Road and the Mojave Road, just west of Goverment Holes @ 10:30am. This has us leaving La Mirada at 6am stopping at Ludlow for fuel then coming up Essex and Black Canyon Road to the meet point. The assumption is that the group would be leaving Curuthers Cyn. at 9:00am and that it will take you about 1.5 hours or so to the meet point. We are allowing an hour for the 30 miles of the freeway on higher speed dirt roads, we may beat that. No ham, but we will be on CB channel 20 and should be able to contact Randy from 2-6 miles. If this timing seems flawed, by all means let me know, we could leave earlier or later.

Matt,
Not sure of the driving time for you to the meeting point but I don't believe we'll need 1.5 hours to get from Caruthers to the Black canyon and Cedar Canyon intersection, maybe 30 -40 minutes, tops.
As for leaving at 9 am, that will all depend on the group getting ready, we have some first timers so some delays is breaking camp are possible. I try and keep things rather loose on these kind of trips. Maybe Randy can leave camp at a time to meet you and eventually meet up with the rest when we camp at Shaw Pass.
As for the weather, my information indicates snow on Saturday! We may already get out of the Canyon by the time this weather arrives, then we might get a little rain while traveling over to Shaw pass, this will be good as it will keep the dust down.
Shaw Pass is much lower and has very porous ground, so no problem with the tents. Sunday is all Sunshine so maybe we'll have some mild rain during the night. Either way it looks like a great adventure!!!!
Thanks, Fred

Current Road conditions in the Mojave Preserve from National Park Service, updated 12/3:
All paved roads open,
Dirt Roads:
•Kelso Dunes Road - Open to all vehicles. •Black Canyon Road - Open to all vehicles. •Cedar Canyon Road - Open to all vehicles. •Lanfair Road - Open. A few muddy and sandy areas; high clearance vehicle recommended. •Ivanpah Road - Open. Rough road in many areas. High Clearance vehicle recommended. •Mojave Road - Open. 4-wheel drive recommended. •Sections of the Mojave Road crossing the Piute Range are badly eroded. Clearance in one spot is narrow and dangerous. •Soda Lake is muddy- crossing is not recommended.
•Aiken Mine Road - Open. High clearance vehicle recommended. •Wildhorse Canyon Road - Open. Muddy and rutted. The rain has caused damage in some places but it is still passable. Soft sand on the southern end. High clearance vehicle recommended. •Macedonia Road - Sand has filled in on the road under the railroad overpass at the west end of Macedonia Road. Use caution- your vehicle may now be too tall to fit under the overpass.

Thanks Michael! Well, there you have it, looks like a great time! The only part of the road that I ever get concerned about would be Soda (Not so dry sometimes,) Dry Lake. I 'll make my assessment when we get there and also decide which route we take around it if it's wet. The normal route and the only one you hear about is north up to Baker and then back down through Razor road. I've done some exploring looking for a southern route and believe I have one that will work, we'll see when we get there and maybe we'll all get a chance to try the "new" southern route. By the way, I told Dave Taylor (No relation) owner of the land in Caruthers Canyon, that I would take a couple of boxes of Eucalyptus firewood to leave at his campsite. I'm going to need someone to help me take them Friday. Thanks, Fred
