For those who can't leave Friday morning and want to meet up with us Friday evening at Caruthers Canyon, here are the directions. (thanks to Jim Frei for these!) Even though you're not leaving with the main group Friday morning, you still need to sign up with a group. It's really a great place, an inland island of beauty in the middle of the Mojave Desert:  DIRECTIONS FROM BARSTOW TO CARUTHERS CANYON CAMP SITE From Barstow take I-40 east from I-15. Go about 107 miles to Gotts Road off ramp then turn left under the freeway. A. N 34-48-40.63 W115-11-43.60 Turn left from Gotts Road (old Hwy 66) onto Lanfair Road about 10.6 miles. If you come to railroad tracks turn around. A. N34-55-10.64 W115-03-56.51 Note that Lanfair Road name changes to Ivanpah Road after a while. Turn left onto New York Mountain Road – there are buildings on the right this is about 21.6 miles from Goffs Rd. A. N35-12-10.51 W115-12-09.53 Turn right to head into Caruthers Canyon about 5.5 miles from Lanfair/Ivanpah Rd. A. N35-13-02.51 W115-17-52.15 Water tank on left continue northerly about 0.7 mile from New York Mountain Road A. N35-13-31.70 W115-18-00.95 Left turn to camp site about 0.4 mile from water tank A.
