I'm taking Mina to a calligraphy conference in Ogden Utah the last week in June. Once I drop her off I'm doing some exploring in the Utah Mountains east of there.
This will be an exploring trip. No plans on any real difficult trails. I have some off road trail books that list several excellent moderate trails. Plans are to enjoy ourselves and keep an easy relaxing pace.
Murrie has expressed plans on coming on this trip. I may even be willing to include room for ladies on this one so if your interested let me know.
I'll know more of which trails we'll take as we get closer.
Go ahead and ask away any questions you may have.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Fred, With the date being moved forward to the 22nd for you and Mina; Carl, Mike, and I will plan on meeting you Saturday late morning at the I70.
We are talking about sharing dinners with one person planning dinner each night and all chipping in to cook and clean. Do you want to part of the rotation?

OK,
I finalized the date I will be leaving. I'll leave Thursday morning (the 22nd) around 6 am and head out to Cedar City Utah for night one. I know of a great camp spot about 10 miles outside of the city with a wonderful view of the valley and city below.
The next day Friday I will travel to or near Ogden Utah where the next morning I will drop off Mina at Weber State University. Then I will travel south to meet up with whomever isn't with me to start our off road adventure.
Mina' conference will end Saturday, July 1st in the morning so I'll need to be in Ogden that morning.
So we're less than 2 weeks away and it time to get anything done to your vehicle so as to have it in optimum running condition.
Murrie has asked about shared dinners, If any of you want to plan share meals with another you're free to do so, however, Don't include me at this time. This is going to be an exploring trip (meaning we're going where I have never been) Because of the unknown factor of when we might arrive at a location and make camp, it might be easier to plan flexible east dinners which don't require a lot of cooking or preparation.
We will regularly pass through small communities where we can fuel up and re-supply so I'm only bringing 4-5 gallons of extra gas, and only a couple (2-3 days) of day meals as I will buy some fresh food at the little communities we travel through.
It is still to be decided where we will meet up on Saturday June 24th. However, I can say it will be somewhere between Beaver city Utah and Ogden Utah.

Due to he snow conditions on the trails I wanted to cover in the southern end of the mountains it looks like we will need to pass on these.
Therefore, looks like we will be starting our first trails in the Northern part of the mountains just east of Ogden.
This means any drivers will need to meet me further north nearer to Ogden, north and east of Salt Lake City.

Fred,
The drive from Hurricane is 4 1/2 hours. We can leave Hurricane at 7:00 Saturday morning and be at Ogden between 11:30 and 12:00. What time do you need us in Ogden? or where on the trail do you want us to join up?

OK,
Change in my plans.
After talking with Mina and getting the check in time for her conference we (Mina & I) have decided we're leaving Friday morning early and will drive up to the camps spot outside Cedar City for Friday night. We'll then leave Saturday morning for Ogden arriving in Ogden around lunch time. We'll have lunch and then drop her off at the Weber State University, 3848 Harrison Blvd, Ogden. This is just east of the Interstate 15 & 84 Junction.
After lunch I will depart to meet up with you guys, or you're welcome to join us for lunch wherever we decide to dine.
Our first trail is called "North Slope Road" it runs west to east near the Wyoming/Utah border. It will take a couple of hours to get to it we'll spend the first night out somewhere on it.
More later on shared equipment.
Just wanted to get this out to you about when I'm leaving.
Thanks, Fred

Fred, I noticed you mentioned you are bring 4-5 gals of extra gas. Is it recommended or required to bring extra gas? Or will we be passing through communities where we can gas up?

Fred, I noticed you mentioned you are bring 4-5 gals of extra gas. Is it recommended or required to bring extra gas? Or will we be passing through communities where we can gas up? Carl, This is a "Exploring" trip, which means I'VE NEVER BEEN ON THESE ROADS AND TRAILS BEFORE! Prudence would say carry an extra 5 gallons of fuel because I can't always say that we'll hit the next little community that has gas to sell before you run out. An exploring trip also means that I don't know when we'll get where we're going and I won't know where we'll camp...........I just wanted to answer those two questions before we started. Also, I can't say were we'll stop for lunch or what the camp spot will look like. That's all part of the adventure and going into "THE GREAT UNKNOWN" Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Equipment sharing:
I will bring the following shared equipment, so it does not need to be duplicated:
1. Recovery equipment and supplied. (Murrie, you will need to bring your Hi-Jack) I will bring all the rest. 2. I will be in my JK so I will have the propane stove. 3. I will bring my fire kit which will include fire starts, lantern, hatchet and saw.
1. I need each of you to bring just 1 box of firewood. Since most of the time we will be traveling through wooded areas we will be able to gather wood for our fires. 2. Each of you need to bring at last 1 5 gallon can for extra gas. 3. One additional 2 burner stove. 4. One additional propane Lantern 5. One regular size shovel, in case we need to dig ourselves out. 6. One table we can set up and use for food preparation.
Let me know which of these you will be bringing. Please don't overload your vehicle with too many un-necessary extras. We need to travel somewhat light and be able to make and break amp with minimum time.
Figure bringing two days food and liquids. We should be passing a town where we can re-supply fresh items, within that time frame.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Murrie, will be bringing his tool set. Murrie, I need to know what is the largest size open end wrench and sockets go up to in your chest.
I will bring my supplemental repair kit with various patch, epoxy and sealing items.
Each of you should bring a couple quarts of oil and ATF for your vehicle.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1
