Well guys I have finally come to the dark side and bought a jeep. We still need to name in so I am open to suggestions. He should be reassembled by the end of next week, and hopefully on the road. Then I will need to schedule time at Freds to start upgrading him. 1999 WJ 4.7L

Congratulations. I have to meet him/her first to suggest a name. Cranky is the first thing that came to mind because I was looking at the open engine. But let's see if it lives up to it. Lol

Lol Welcome to the dark side Roz. I like 'cranky' but hope that wouldn't be prophetic of its mechanical nature. Or what about 'the juice' (V8)? The Baboon did well on the AZ Strip (well, except for the brake problem, the vacuum lock, the hot tranny, the broken muffler bracket, and the screamin rear end at the end - now I know why guys get new jeeps!). Miss you all. Danny

Depending on how much you have to spend on it.........you could call it "The Weep".
Because you may be weeping before you get it done.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Congrats man. I wouldn't mind picking up a 4.7 WJ too some day. Keep us updated with your progress. I know on the other thread you said something about the engine being rebuilt. Was it just the block they messed with or the heads too?

Was it just the block they messed with or the heads too? It had a cracked head, so he replaced the heads, now it's just reassemble time. So hopefully it's up and running by the end of next week. Roz

Roz shared with the group tonight at shop night that when they started it up they discovered the block was warped. So seems he looking for new/used engine. May be a while before it's hitting the trail.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Are there any other vehicles that share that engine, could expand your search a little. Ebay auction from Sun Valley, could save the $300 shipping by driving up to get it. www.ebay.com/itm/1999-2007-JEEP-GRAND-CHEROKEE-4-7L-ENGINE-PROFESSIONALLY-REBUILT-W-WARRANTY-OEM-/300946856851?fits=Make%3AJeep

I ended up getting a new one from Autozone with my company discount for 2600 with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty and didn't have to put any thing down for the core. Roz

Roz Sounds like a bad case of false advertising, not too surprising from an ebay seller. Keep us posted on the Autozone engine, I have considered it for past projects but never done it myself.

I'm still sore about that wheel and tire deal you got!!! Ha
I think you should take off the "Trail Rated" and replace it with a "Mom Rated' or maybe "Mall Rated" sticker.
You were missed on the trip last Saturday, Dishpan has really become more difficult! Explorer 1 even had a tough go of it!
See you sooner or later,
