I tested the Grand two more times since last Thursday night and it hasn't stalled once. I', at the point where I going to officially call it "FIXED". Three cheers to Ryan who did the work on the grounds that fixed!!!
With that out of the way we can move on to the other fixes which we have already placed in motion.
Now we can turn to the tires. What research I had done indicates that for whatever reason, 16" rim tires are more expensive for the exact same tire but mounted on a 15" rim. In the case of BFG's All Terrain 265/60/16 compared to 31x12.50x15 there is more than $50.00 saving per tire on the 15" rim.
So it would seem to make sense to swap over to a 15" rim. The question is will the front brakes fit over a 15" rim. Anyone out there know?
Once we figure this out we can start looking for tires.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

15s will fit, most ZJs came with 15s stock. I have a set of stock wheels from my MJ we can use. We probably want to look for used since this jeep isnt a daily driver right?

You bring up an interesting point when it comes to some parts. Used or new? ?? Quality or get by parts??? Since this is our first "Project Vehicle" we will probably learn as we go this time. We have two "Tracks" so to speak to consider. 1. If we end up selling it to one of the owners with the base price being just what we spent on the vehicle, buying the very best quality parts and going ahead and buying new high quality off road tires works out fine. ( by the way an owner wanting it means that they are going to keep it and not just filp it to make a fast buck!) 2. If we end up selling it to someone other than a owner, than tires, for example, give you a very poor return when it comes to selling it. We could easily spend $750.00 on 5 new off road tires but I doubt we could get that money back on the sells price over spending $200.00 on 4 fair used off road tires. Now that we have fixed the stall problem, and shortly we will have the power steering issue fixed, the GRAND is looking better and better as a reliable capable off road vehicle. Once we clean it up and give it a shine it will look the part also. If none of the owners want it, once we finish the other "fix" items we could easily double our money and roll our funds into another vehicle repeating the process. I'd like to hear from the other owners if there is any interest in acquiring it, if not then we will go forward with looking for 4 good used off road tires. I'd like to see how a 31x10.50x 15 fits in the stock fenders first before we spend the $$ on a set only to find we have to do a lot of work to make them fit well. OK guys, what are your thoughts? i think we should look for a decent used set. like you said, the return rate is going to be very little if we buy new and the jeep is sold later on. plus, i cant see it getting enough use to be wearing out tires very fast. Murrie and I have 31s, we can mock up the ZJ with either of our tires before pulling the trigger on its own set. I've also thought about putting my tires on the ZJ and taking it on the New Years trip and seeing how they clear the fenders.

Thanks Matt,
Good idea about using the tires off Murrie's Murf mobile to see how they fit.
What do you say Murrie, can you bring over the Murf next Thursday?

May be interested in buying this Jeep for/with Claire. I think it would be a good car for her, however, she may not agree. Have not breeched the subject with her yet since I don't know when we will sell it. I'm down with a set of "good" used tires. Of course the problem will be finding 4 or 5 all the same. That could be troublesome. I'm totally in favor of changing the wheels to 15's. Tires for 16" rims are very limited choices and are always more expensive than 15's. You can get any tire in a 15". There are more available choices with 17's and 18's than there are with 16" rims.

Neil,
Once it is cleaned up and shined up, I think the value of it in many peoples eyes will increase. It really ran smooth and had plenty of power the other day when Ryan and I were testing it.

Where I work we have two new Uniroyal All Terrains in 23570R16 which is I think the stock size for the Grand for $50 a piece. They stopped carrying them and the computer says we only have 1 so they're super cheap.
