I think I like to give this project on teh former Rafe mobile some kind of name. Maybe some of you can come up with something "catchy"
OK now for what I discovered today on the Grand Cherokee.
I needed to move it slightly forward so I tryed starting it:
First the battery was in good shape after sittling for a week and it statred up fairly quickly.
Then afer just a few seconds it stalled.
I waited a few seconds and tried to start it unsuccessfully.
I got out my fuel pressure gague and hooked it up ti once again test the fuel rail pressure. After a few trys it finally started. then shortly it stalled again. I was watching the fuel pressure gauge and there was no change in the amount of pressure reading when it stalled. This verified once again that it wasn't a fuel issue.
Each time when it did start there was a lot of belt squealing for a few seconds, this might be due to the power steering pump going out. After a minute of so it would stall again.
I took and wiggled each of the three wire harness on the ECU and noticed that the one closest to the engine seemed a little pushed out and not completely in.
Once again I started it and this time it ran for several minutes before it stalled out.
The next time I started it I then come around and help pressure on this harness and it ran for several minutes without stalling. I then moved the harness a little and noticed that when I put some upward pressure on the harness I could get the engine to miss and stall!
I then pushed it in well and started up the engine again. After running it at different RPM without and stalling I then let it idle with my foot right against the acclerator peddle, when it made it's first indiction of any stall, I quickly pumper the gas and the increase of RPM caused it to run smooth again. I can only assume that the increase of engine speed also increaed the voltage level and off set the loose connection with the ECU.
Here is the plug:
Thanks,
Fred
