Were just a week away from the most challenging 2 days we do as a group. I was up there driving Holcomb Creek trail this past Thursday and Ryan's Raptor finally found a trail that was a real challenge for him and maybe just a bit more than he would have wanted to take on. I'll let him tell you about how it went and explain the "character marks" he has on his Raptor.
While we were on the trail is clouded up, then there was lightning and thunder followed by loads of hail and the snow. This wasn't expected but I guess when there are some clouds down here there is always that chance of sudden weather changes at the higher altitudes.
Speaking of weather, the forecast is for the highs in the low 60's during the day and down into the 30's at night. So bring warm enough clothes and sleeping bags so you can enjoy the evening and night at Crabtree Flats campground.
If you're coming and plan on doing any of the tougher trails you must have the following:
1. Both front and rear tow points and a full tank of gas at the starting trailhead.
2. Full size spare tire and the means to change it on trail.
3. Someone chosen that will spot the more difficult sections of eh trail for you. Preferably it will be someone in you vehicle, how ever you can team up with another driver to spot for each other.
4. You need a tow strap that is stored in a handy place in your vehicle.
5. Because some of you may need to move rocks to get through you should carry some gloves to protect your hands.( ask Ryan if you have any doubt)
6. All vehicles must have a map of the area we're traveling so that if they get separated or left behind they can find there way out or around the more difficult trails.
A good map that covers all the trails can be down loaded at:

If you have come before on one of the prior CH Challenge trips you know that only a very few vehicles that start this adventure make it all the way to the end. There are a variety of reasons for this ranging from vehicle failure and breakdown to driver fatigue and stress. In order to provide the greatest opportunity for those wanting to go the whole distance we will need to start early each day. The plan will be to leave the McDonalds at the Cleghorn trailhead at 6 am Saturday. You will need to top off your tank at the Chevron station next to the McDonald's before we leave so plan accordingly. If you arrive late you can try and catch up on the Cleghorn fire service road or drive around the mountain and meet us as we come off the Cleghorn trail.
More details on meals and the trail schedule later.
Thanks,
Fred
