Thursday Night Shop purpose re-stated
I like opening my shop for guys to work on their off road vehicles.
The purpose of “Thursday night shop night” is for guys who off road with the group to work on their off road vehicles making repairs and upgrades.
I believe that is a pretty straightforward and simple purpose. It is also a simple guideline when it comes to deciding whose vehicle and what vehicles we will work on.
Many of you guys have big and willing hearts and are willing to work on other “needy” peoples cars and I commend you for your willingness and desire to help others in this practical way. However, this is not the purpose of Thursday nights.
I need to bring us back to the primary purpose why I open up my shop, that being to work on the off road vehicles that we take on our trips.
I also need to re-enforce a few simple rules of courtesy:
1. I need to know if you plan on working on your vehicle before you show up in the driveway. You should know days ahead and plan accordingly. Use the Forum to let me know what work you want to do. In most cases this will be all you need to do. If I need to know more I’ll contact you and in some rare cases we might need to put off the work for a week because we already have enough vehicles ahead of you.
2. Don’t show up Thursday in my driveway and then tell me what you want to do when you arrive. See # 1 above.
3. Everyone is welcome to come and work or stand around and talk however, not everyone’s vehicle is welcome to come and be worked on. See our purpose above.
4. If you’re a regular in the group and you want to bring one of your non-off road vehicles to work on, this “may” be possible but again follow the procedures and realize that off road vehicles, have the priority. Your vehicle means just that yours, not your grown up daughter’s or son’s or some other relative, neighbor or friend.
5. If you’re going to be changing fluids in your vehicle bring your own containers to take the used fluids with you. My shop will no longer serve as the depository for your used fluids.
6. All vehicles that are having work done must place the used carpet on the cement below where they are being worked on.
7. By planning ahead and talking with some of the more experienced guys about the work you want to do you can purchase the right parts, hardware and fluids.
8. When you’re having your vehicle worked on you should at a minimum plan on paying for the pizza of those who help you with the work. $3.00 each.
Thanks and let me know if you have any suggestions or questions.
Let’s keep those off road vehicles rolling.
