I'm planning for the first three months of 2023 some trips. Here is what is in my mind.
January - Anza Borrego
February - Death Valley area
March - Gold Butte/Arizona Strip explore
Anza Borrego is second only to the Mojave Trail in popularity. Lots of variety of trail. We usually make a base camp and stay in Blair Valley and then go out each day on trails. This works best going out on a Thursday and returning Sunday.
There are so many trails in the greater Death Valley area, I would include Panamint Valley and the Saline Valley as possibilities. Depending on who goes and where they haven't gone before, would determine where we go. Again, this is best to be a 3+ days trip. It is possible for late comers to join us at our camp some evening if they can't get off work.
The Gold Butte area is next to the Arizona Strip and could be called the Nevada Strip area. It's a recently new "monument" area so with time the "park service" will be closing trails as the usually do. Gold Butte is the area with the Virgin river to the west, the Arizona Strip to the east, and Lake Mead to the south. I visited this area years ago with Michael Alcorn. It's just as remote and untamed as the Arizona Strip. We usually exit I-15 just before Mesquite and visit Little Finland first, from there we travel south with some nights camping on the north shore of Lake Mead. It's best that a trip of this type to use a full week to do it.
So there you have it, if you want to go give me some dates that work for you, otherwise I will just choose some dates for them. If you give me a date that you want the trip to be, and I schedule it for your benefit, be sure you go on that trip unless you have good reason for missing it, like a death in the family........your own!
Thanks,
Fred
