I have a real desire to get out in the desert in a remote place, get there early enough to settle down for a relaxing evening around a campfire to enjoy the stars and the quietness of the desert.
I also have a desire to put some miles on my JK now that I have it back to verify that there will be "no more thrown codes".
I think I can combine these two with a shorter easier trip next Friday and Saturday. (25th & 26th)
I'm going to leave Friday early enough to beat the traffic out of town and get to my camp spot in time to enjoy the late afternoon and the sunset.
My plan is to drive out to the Afton Canyon exit, drive through the canyon and then instead of following the Mojave Trail toward Soda Dry Lake, travel on the south side of the railroad east to where the trail comes in from Broadwell dry lake.
I'll then head south over the Mesquite Hills and toward Broadwell Dry Lake. Before getting to the dry lake head southwest on a trail I've never taken. It will eventually come into Interstate 40 near Pisgah Crater.
Some where along this route I 'll find a suitable campsite for the night. I'll leave that decision until I've left Interstate 15 at Afton Canyon. It will all depend on how far I get so as to allow plenty of time to enjoy the evening.
I should get back home Saturday not too much past noon. (at the latest)
I'm perfectly happy to take this this trek alone but would welcome anyone to tag along. From what I know of the trail, it should be simple and little 4WD if any will be necessary.
Let me know if your coming and I may adjust my leaving time Friday to accommodate your schedule. (however I will be leaving no later than noon to avoid any traffic)
Thanks,
Fred
