Hey guys!
I can’t remember the exact gracious gentlemen that helped install my rear bumper but I’m at the point that I need to replace the hitch due to all the towing I’ve been doing.
That being said, from all the research, and videos, and referencing the bumper install instructions I’ve done, I can’t seem to figure out how to loosen the bottom 2 bolts of the hitch receiver. We can turn them but they don’t move, they just keep turning.
The other 4 bolts that are flush with the vertical part of the bumper, we’ve gotten out.
As a reminder, I have a 5th Gen 4Runner with a Shrockworks rear bumper.
First - do you remember who installed it?
Second - if so, do you remember if there was anything different about the bottom 2 bolts for the receiver.
Third - if nobody remembers, any ideas on what could be the problem. We’ve exhausted our ideas.

I didn't help you install the bumper, but I looked it up and it looks like your Toyota uses nuts welded inside the crossmember. They probably broke loose and are just turning. See if you can get a wrench in there from a hole near by.

Yup! Confirming that’s what happened, we got a camera to peek inside the frame and that’s it! Both nuts are turning.
Going to try to figure out next steps

It looks like there are access holes along the rear of the crossmember. You may be able to get a wrench in one of the holes and push it over until you can get it on the nut. A curved wrench (search amazon for examples) may work for you too. It wont be easy, and will require taking the bumper off. The other option is cutting a new access hole where the nuts are. That will probably require taking the bumper off as well. Unfortunately, I'm just going off of pictures from the internet that may or may not be what your 4Runner actually looks like. Without actually seeing it in person, I wont be able to provide much more help.
I'm curious though, how'd you wear out a hitch receiver? I've never heard of that happening. Is the hitch real loose inside the receiver?
