I'm going to do Heartbreak ridge in the San Bernardino mountains is two weeks, that would be Saturday May 2nd.
I'll leave from here Saturday morning and do the trail and then when done I'll be driving over to my place at the Oaks for the night, anyone coming on the day trip is welcome to extend it overnight at the Oaks and come home the next day (Sunday). I just need to know that you plan on doing this.
This is a trip open to all, and to some of the more inexperienced drivers, it will stretch them some.
Let me know if you plan on coming.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Oh yes, I forgot one other item.
If your sick or fearful of being exposed to a virus, stay home.
This will be a Covid free and mask free trip.

We'll plan on leaving Ralph's at 6 am. I'd like to grab a bot before we start climbing the mountain. There is a McDonald's in Mentone across from Stater Bro's we can drive through and if needed, a gas station with cheap gas near by.
Again of your coming, I just need to know if you plan on spending the night camping at our "Oaks" property.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

With a small group, which this looks like it will be, we can cover a lot of ground easily. If we are able to move along quickly, we will do the trail both directions!
One other thing is brewing, I may need to go up to my place Friday to drop off some things for fixing the gas line and electrical line I broke Tuesday.
If I go up Friday, I'll plan on meeting all of you at the Oaks Restaurant turnout in Angelus Oaks on highway 38. I believe they are closed, but its a good place to meet with plenty of turn out space. At the turnout there is also a general store and gas station, which is open.
It's a little less than a 90 minute drive from Whittier to the Oaks Restaurant.
There is cell service there so we can keep in touch with your progress until we meet.
I'll confirm with all on this forum if I do go up on Friday.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1
P.S. By the way it looks like great weather for Saturday!

I'm planning to make it, and will likely stay over Saturday night. Bring your sleeping bag and whatever food you want to have for dinner and breakfast. There is a BBQ available. Thanks, Fred

This is to confirm that I will be driving up Friday afternoon and meet you guys at the Oaks restaurant in Angelus Oaks on Highway 38. I'll plan on being there at 7:15 am on Saturday so you can each plan out your own route and departure time from home. I'll stay there until 7:30 am and then start up hwy 38 toward the trail head near Onyx Pass (which I just found out that it's the highest highway (paved) pass in Southern California. Rumor has it that we will be joined by none other than Murrie and the Smurf, Caleb and the Red Baboon, Bodie and (did we give our last project ZJ a name?) and Les, who is "less" known to many of you. (the Les that went on the Anza Borrego Trip a year ago). We'll see, See you Saturday at 7:15 on Hwy 38. My cell is 562-547-5577 I'll be monitoring 147.555 Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Greetings,
I am definitely planning on going to Heartbreak Ridge this Saturday. But I have been having starting trouble with my Jeep. Usually once it’s warmed up it starts fine. So Lord willing it will start Saturday. I don’t think I’ll spend the night this time, I need to be home as much as possible finish something by Monday. The future awaits!
