As announced, this trip will be Saturday Feb 23rd through Saturday March 2nd.
This will not be like the usual trip we take for the following reasons:
1. This is a "Exploring trip" which means I have limited or no prior experience on many of the trail we will take, So I can't predict what the condition of the trails will be or where we will camp each night.
2. The Nevada and Arizona Strip are located in some of the most remote areas in the USA. Warning are given by the BLM that one must be capable of handling their own emergency as help is a long way away. At times we will be over 60 miles from the nearest pavement. Much of the area has no cell service and AAA is not willing to come make a service call.
3. All vehicles should be in excellent running condition, this would include tires and the spare. Any slight problem you may be having with your rig needs to be corrected prior to the trip. We will carry with us a full set of tools, fluids and misc. repair items, however you are responsible to carry any "special" items you deem necessary for your vehicles particular.
4. There are no reliable sources of gas of fuel in the "strips". Each vehicle needs to carry a minimum of 25 gallons of extra fuel.
5. To the best of my knowledge, there is no reliable source of potable water available. There are springs and lake Mead but they would need to be purified first. Bring what water you need for drinking for the entire time on the "strips". If weather permits we can use the springs, lake and possibly the Colorado for personal grooming and cleaning.
6. The additional weight of the fuel, water and supplies can place an additional strain on your vehicles suspension and tires. Once I have a secure list pf those going we will distribute responsibilities of "shared" equipment to be carries so we don't end up with duplicates.
7. Most of the trails are in a fairly arid region, so firewood can be scarce. Each vehicle will need to bring at least one box (possibly more) of firewood if we plan on cooking on an open fire.
8. In the upper altitudes of the Arizona Strip, rain and snow are possibilities, I'll know more closer to our departure time. But regardless, dress and sleeping bags need to be carried that can keep you warm and comfortable in whatever weather.
If you are coming I need to have a confirmation from you, any questions??? let me know now rather than later.
Thanks,
Fred
