Well it came and went, in just two days. All 4 vehicles made the entire course covering every difficult trail from Interstate 15 all the way over to Pioneer Town near Yucca Valley. Over 100 miles of dirt, rock, and sand. Everyone came away with at least some damage but also came away victorious in that they along with their vehicles had taken on the best the San Bernardino mountains could dish out and finished in record time. Lot's of movies to edit and I'm waiting for copies of the pictures others took before I make the YouTube movie. And just in case you hear this ugly roomer that Explorer 1 rolled, I want to make it clear in order to roll the side of your vehicle has to come in contact with the dirt, in my case close doesn't count and so although I came close (2 inches), the old Cherokee never touched "tierra firma" so it can only be called at best an "almost roll". Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

I looked it up in the Field N Stream off road regulations. If either vehicle side door handle comes within 2% of the vehicle's width from the trail's substrate irrespective of the tilt angle, it's classified as a roll. Fred, IT'S A ROLL, OWN IT!! Just like when one's rock sliders wedge tight in a rock V notch its called a "wedgie." I owned it, as humiliating as it was.

I looked it up in the dictionary: roll rōl/Submit verb 1. move or cause to move in a particular direction by turning over and over on an axis. "the car rolled down into a ditch" synonyms: turn round and round, go round and round, turn over and over, spin, rotate "the bottle rolled down the table" 2. (of a vehicle) move or run on wheels. "the van was rolling along the highway" synonyms: travel, go, move, pass, cruise, sweep "we rolled past fields" noun 1. a cylinder formed by winding flexible material around a tube or by turning it over and over on itself without folding. "a roll of carpet" synonyms: cylinder, tube, scroll; More 2. a movement in which someone or something turns or is turned over on itself. "a roll of the dice" synonyms: throw, toss, turn, spin "a roll of the dice"
Looks like it wasn't even a "almost Roll"!

Well, it certainly looks like you're in a ditch as described in the example for definition 1. You apparently had to "roll" Explorer 1 to get into the ditch, so definition 2 is met. Explorer 1 has a rolled tubing roll cage (sort of ironic) that meets one of the synonyms under definition 3. Last, from all the hype around the difficulty of the CH Challege, everyone was "rolling the dice" to even finish.
So, I'd say by definition you are correct, it wasn't an "almost roll," it was a roll. An "almost roll" is what I did coming down that steep hill on the Hungry Valley trip.
I'll apply the same criteria when I roll the Tacoma some day, which I'm sure I would have if I had come and followed your line.
What's the next trip?

And I always thought a "roll" was something you had with dinner! Thanks Mike! I may be taking a "by" or Bye" on trips for June and July. Or they may just be day trips or spur of the moment trips these two months. We have a lots of activity with contractors on our property up at "The Oaks" during this time and I have to be available to be up there whenever they are working. I can say that I am planning a full week in August for camping and off roading near Shaffer Lake outside of Fresno. Most likely the earlier part of the month. Then there is the Koko III trip going on Oct 10-20th which I think you already know about. Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

We finished Saturdays trails early so we had a grand time around the campfire discussing the days trails and the meaning of the term "stock 31's" which if you don't know the meaning, ask Fern. The few, the brave and the weary.......the finishers just before sunset when we hit pavement again. Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Here is the first draft of the upper Dishpan Springs gatekeeper, this will be removed once the other movies come in and are edited.

The movie, Sorry for the limited footage. It's difficult to be the lead vehicle and cameraman.
