I think I'm going to go out for a day on the dirt.
Both the upcoming Saturdays are two days before the holidays and they should allow some of you who haven't been out much or just want to try some trails an opportunity.
With winter coming late this year, some of the local mountains still have trail open that are usually closed by this time.
We would leave early and plan on being back in the afternoon.
We might even stay around one trail for a while so some of you can practice your "skills".
Let me know if either of these days your interested, otherwise I'll make some plans of my own to do some exploring and maybe a Mammoth Run to move some of my stuff out of our place up there as escrow is supposed to close early January.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

What trails to think you're going to do, may be interested.

I'm open to letting the ones who go choose the type of trail and which trail. We could even go out to Hungry Valley OHV where there is a 4x4 training area with everything from beginning to very challenging Rock crawling sections in the training area and I could do some coaching and teaching.
SO if you're coming, let me know what you'd like to do.
This could be called "drivers choice"
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Fred, for me I would say Dec 30th, but that is dependent if I get front bump stops on the jeep. Carl

I might even take the F250 just to try some crawling.

Fred,
I would like Hungry Valley also, Caleb can get some experience and Rachel is exited about learning in the yellow Jeep also. The 30th is still the best day for me and Rachel.

Looks like things are too busy for a December 23rd trip, but looking good for a December 30th trip to Hungry Valley OHV and the 4x4 training area. Those interested there are a number of trails in and near Hungry Valley. Next to the 4x4 training area there are bathrooms and a picnic area. So let me know if you coming and if you want me to spend some time with you at the 4x4 area. Their is a small entrance fee for Hungry Valley per car, you can read more at: ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1192ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1200The Millers Jeep trail and Lockwood Creek trail empty into Hungry Valley OHV. I'm officially comiting for the 30th. I plan on moving a few things this Friday with Fred's trailer. Not it be confused with Fred Taylor. Ha! I need to decide if I'm taking the F250, or the Jeep.

www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5307967Some roads are still closed to the forest from the Thomas fire. Lockwood, Alamo, Frazier mtn, and even Ballinger ORV all show closed according to latest Los Padres Forest site. Mt Pinos is open I know, as was up there doing standby last week. Of course Hungry Valley is open, as is the access to Gold Hill.

I'm pretty much committed to helping those who want to improve their driving skill around the 4wd training area, but other may come up wanting to extend themselves outside the park. I plan of leaving the Ralph's Parking lot at Whittier and Colima at 6 am. We'll stop at Denny's in Castaic (Lake Hughes Rd Exit) off of Interstate 5.
Plan of your own picnic lunch, we'll be practicing at the Aliklik campground next to the 4x4 practice area. There are picnic tables, BBQ's and bathrooms.
Since this is an OHV area any of you that want to bring ATV's or motorcycles are welcome.
If you're not traveling with me you need to take the south entrance at the Smokey Bear exit of of Interstate 5. At the entrance gate where you pay your fee, they will give you a map. The Aliklik campground is just off the main park road.
If you're coming and haven't already told me such, please let me know.
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1
