are we still thinking about a project jeep? i've done some brief searching on craigslist and found this: orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/3384585585.htmlthe year is listed as an 83 but obviously they didnt have the XJ in 83. its most likely an 87. we can post up other ideas about a project jeep here

Wow that seems like a pretty good deal, it may already be gone. Luke and I were saying we might want to get our own project Jeep at some point soon, we'd have to sell a few other toys.
I'm also interested in a project Jeep for the shop.

losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/3386241298.htmlCalled on this one. He still has it, clean title up to date registration. The trans issue is odd. He explained that he'll be driving and all of a sudden it drops I to neutral and the engine just revs. Shuts it down and restarts it and everything is cool again. he told me he would take $400 for it.

It could be as simple as the trans computer, or as serious as a solinoid (sp?) gone in the trans side. What do you think? I've never been a fan of dark colors.

I don't think it would need a new trans completely, since it works fine for a period of time. Im thinking either a wiring short somewhere, bad TCU, or bad solenoid(s) like you mentioned. Nothing expensive, but there's still the gamble that we can't fix the problem. I'm not a fan of dark colors either, but $400 is very cheap.

Oh yeah, it's got 220,000 miles on it. High I know ($400, what do you expect?). Should it need a valve job I still have the good head from my MJ we can throw on it.

I asume it's an automatic. Can we find out the mileage?
How would you handle this, believe the guy or bring a starter and battery and see if he's telling the truth about it?
Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

yep, automatic. would be super rare if it were a manual.
im gonna call it on my lunch break tomorrow to find out more info. if its good enough to go see it, i would want to bring a good starter and battery and verify that it does run good. i'd hate to get it to find out that it needs major engine work or something. the starter is super easy to install anyways.
i will report my findings tomorrow. maybe he'll take less than $800. i'd still like to get the Payne's ZJ though
