Well, I had the 7-11 Grand aligned today and we still have the Death Wobble, so it looks like we'll start taking a closer look and possibly taking the front end apart checking each joint and part for play and wear. Hopefully, we'll come across the part(s) that we can replace and get this vehicle drivable above 30mph!
Se you Thursday,
Fred Explorer 1

We also have to finish working on the rims. Do you mean clean up and paint, or the rear that need to have the center hole trimmed? Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

Who aligned it? What are the specs? Have the tires been balanced?
Have you replaced the parts I already pointed out?
You don't need to remove anything to find play.

Unfortunetly I have plans but if that changes I'll be happy to swing by.
In case I don't make it there is plenty of info all over the net on death wobble. There's probably even videos on YouTube. Put a checklist together of possible culprits and start checking 1 by 1. Look up how to check ball joints and hubs for play etc. One such source for DW info is NAXJA.
Any single component can cause it but it also might be that all the items are worn just enough that together they cause it.
If the tires haven't been dynamically balanced then don't even bother moving forward as this or a loose/worn track bar make up the majority of the hundreds of death wobble cases I've seen.

I am also getting some wobble and popping since Utah. My stabilizer has oil coming out of it. Fred can I be an Indian giver and get that stabilizer back I gave you for your parts attic?

Thanks, we took off the track back and upon review it appears to have not to be the cause. I'm leaning more toward the ball joints. It would be a good Thursday night project to have the guys replace them so they get some experience for when their own vehicle needs some replaced. We'll see who shows up and how our work progresses in the inspection of the other possible culprits. Thanks, Fred Explorer 1

I have nothing else to do from 5 to 9 on Thursdays.

"Upon review"... What exactly does that mean? Did you replace it with another? Or is it speculation based upon how it felt off the vehicle? I only ask because you cannot duplicate the forces applied to the mounted track bar by hand.
Feel free to take it all apart if you wish. I only dream of the day that I can afford such time. I have to diagnose problems with as few steps and as little time wasted as possible. (One of these days I might even have time to work on my own Heep lol. So I would suggest that prior to removing it all you can attempt to move the ball joints in two ways... Jacking up one side and trying to wiggle top and bottom of tire as hard as possible. ANY play here is bad. Look very very closely. Repeat on other side. Or use a very large pry bar in knuckle to achieve the same basic test.
Good luck guys!

Oops forgot to mention that vertical movement in the joints are bad as well. Doesn't always cause death wobble but its a sign of a failing joint. So when lifting or lowering the rig see if the knuckle moves up or down in the inner C.

Well we seemed to have found part of the problem: the tires. After using Fernando's front tires on the 7-11 and replacing the tie rod end at the pitman arm the wobble went away. Swapping back to the 7-11s tires made it come back, so the problem is definitely in the tires. I believe the owners will decide whether or not to go with new tires or another set of used

Update.. Joseph Rubio and I placed the 711's front tires on his car to test the tires. No death wobble. Not even a hint. Joe's front end suspension is solid. What now?
